Affordable Teen Therapy in North Bay: Meet Catherine Beatty
Finding the right therapist for a teenager can feel challenging.
Teens need more than someone who understands mental health in theory. They need a therapist who is genuine, approachable and willing to meet them where they are, without judgment, pressure or expectations that they disclose everything immediately.
At Healing Connections Psychotherapy, we are incredibly excited to offer accessible adolescent therapy with Catherine Beatty, Registered Psychotherapist (Qualifying) and Student Therapist.
Catherine genuinely loves working with teenagers. She understands that adolescence can be exciting, confusing, overwhelming and exhausting, sometimes all at once. Her warmth, authenticity and natural ability to connect with young people help teenagers feel respected, understood and comfortable being themselves.
Affordable Teen Therapy at $120 per Session
We believe families should have access to meaningful mental-health support before concerns become a crisis.
Catherine currently offers therapy for teens at our reduced student rate of:
$120 per 50-minute session.
This is an excellent opportunity for families seeking compassionate, trauma-informed therapy at a more accessible rate.
Catherine offers appointments both in person at our North Bay clinic and virtually across Ontario, when virtual therapy is clinically appropriate.
Your Teen Does Not Need to Be in Crisis to Benefit From Therapy
Teenagers are navigating academic expectations, changing friendships, family relationships, identity development, social media and increasing pressure to figure out their futures.
When teens are struggling, they do not always have the words to explain what is happening.
Emotional distress may instead appear as:
Anxiety or constant overthinking
Irritability, anger or emotional outbursts
Withdrawal from family or friends
School avoidance or declining grades
Difficulty concentrating or completing tasks
Low self-esteem or harsh self-criticism
Perfectionism and fear of failure
Social anxiety or difficulty maintaining friendships
Emotional shutdowns or sensory overwhelm
Changes in sleep, motivation or energy
Grief, trauma or difficulty adjusting to change
Feeling misunderstood, different or alone
Therapy can give teenagers a place to make sense of these experiences without feeling lectured, judged or treated like a problem that needs to be fixed.
A Therapist Who Sees the Person Behind the Behaviour
Catherine’s approach is compassionate, collaborative and non-judgmental.
She recognizes that behaviour often communicates something deeper. Anger may be protecting hurt. Avoidance may be connected to fear or overwhelm. Perfectionism may reflect intense pressure or a belief that making a mistake is unsafe. Withdrawal may be a teenager’s attempt to manage emotions that feel too big to explain.
Instead of asking, “What is wrong with this teen?” Catherine approaches young people with curiosity: What has this teenager experienced? What might they be feeling? What do they need in order to feel safer, more capable and better understood?
Catherine works to develop a genuine therapeutic relationship before expecting a teenager to talk about difficult experiences. She allows trust to develop naturally and gives teens meaningful input into their goals and the direction of therapy.
How Catherine Can Support Teenagers
Catherine works with young people experiencing a variety of mental-health, emotional and developmental concerns, including:
Anxiety and chronic stress
Depression and low motivation
ADHD and executive-functioning challenges
Autism and neurodivergence
Emotional dysregulation
Trauma and difficult life experiences
Grief and loss
Low self-esteem
Friendship and relationship difficulties
Family conflict
School-related stress
Identity and belonging
Major life transitions
Dual diagnoses and complex needs
Her work is grounded in a humanistic, client-centered and trauma-informed approach. This means therapy is adapted to the individual teenager rather than expecting every teen to respond to the same strategies.
Supporting Neurodivergent Teens Without Shame
Neurodivergent teenagers are often misunderstood.
A teen who appears unmotivated may be experiencing executive dysfunction. A teenager who seems oppositional may feel overwhelmed by demands or a loss of control. Emotional outbursts may happen after hours of masking, sensory overload or trying to meet expectations that do not align with the young person’s needs.
Catherine has experience supporting young people with ADHD, autism, dual diagnoses and other forms of neurodivergence.
Therapy may help neurodivergent teens:
Understand how their brain and nervous system work
Recognize signs of sensory or emotional overload
Develop practical strategies for school and daily routines
Communicate their needs more confidently
Explore executive-functioning challenges without shame
Build self-acceptance and recognize their strengths
Navigate relationships while remaining authentic
Reduce the exhaustion associated with masking
The goal is not to make a neurodivergent teenager act more neurotypical. It is to help them understand themselves, identify what they need and develop strategies that work for their life.
What Parents Can Expect
Parents and caregivers are important members of a teenager’s support system, but teens also need privacy to develop trust in therapy.
Depending on the teenager’s age, circumstances and treatment goals, parents or caregivers may participate in the intake process, occasional check-ins or collaborative sessions. Catherine can also help families better understand emotional regulation, communication and ways to support progress at home.
Confidentiality and its limits will be clearly explained at the beginning of therapy. If there is a serious concern about safety, appropriate information will be shared in accordance with professional and legal responsibilities.
Whenever possible, teenagers are involved in conversations about what needs to be communicated and how those conversations will happen.
A Welcoming Therapy Space in Downtown North Bay
Catherine offers in-person appointments at Healing Connections Psychotherapy, located at 183 First Avenue West in downtown North Bay.
Our clinic was designed to feel warm, creative and welcoming rather than cold or clinical. Teenagers can enter a space where individuality is celebrated and where they are not expected to hide the parts of themselves that others may not understand.
Secure virtual appointments may also be available to teenagers across Ontario when online therapy is an appropriate fit.
Meet Catherine Beatty
Catherine is a Registered Psychotherapist (Qualifying) and Student Therapist completing her Master of Arts in Counselling Psychology through Yorkville University. She also holds a bachelor’s degree in forensic psychology from Wilfrid Laurier University and brings experience supporting people with diverse mental-health, developmental and relational needs.
What makes Catherine truly special, however, is the person she is in the room.
She is compassionate, relatable and deeply committed to helping young people recognize that they matter. She does not approach teenagers as problems to solve. She approaches them as whole people with valuable perspectives, existing strengths and the capacity to heal and grow.
We are so grateful to have Catherine at Healing Connections, and we know how fortunate our teen clients are to have her in their corner.
Give Your Teen a Safe Place to Be Heard
Your teenager does not need to have everything figured out before beginning therapy. They do not need a formal diagnosis or a physician’s referral, and they do not need to be in crisis to deserve support.
Sometimes the most important first step is simply having a safe person outside the family who will listen.
Catherine is currently accepting teen clients at the reduced student rate of $120 per 50-minute session.
Appointments are available in person in North Bay and virtually across Ontario when appropriate.
