Building Strength Under Fire: Training Mattawa FD in the Operational Resiliency Protocol

ree

Last week, I had the privilege of spending time with the Mattawa Fire Department, delivering Occupational Resiliency Protocol (ORP) Training through Healing Connections.

This group of firefighters blew me away — so engaged, open, and willing to learn. It was clear how much they care about supporting each other and staying strong for their community.

ORP uses neuroscience-based tools like bilateral stimulation to help first responders process trauma, stress, and intrusive thoughts — literally rewiring how the brain reacts to difficult experiences. In just a few at-home sessions, these techniques can take the edge off the toughest mental loads.

I offered this training at no cost because I believe that every department deserves these tools, no matter their size or resources. Spending time with this crew reminded me why I do this work — their commitment to each other and to learning was inspiring.

If you're a first responder looking for a different tool to work through stuck calls or a department that wants to learn more about Occupational Resiliency Protocol or bring this training to your team, let’s talk. This stuff can make a big difference.
